Louka is not an athlete

Louka was unhappy when she was woken this morning to get ready for her school sports carnival. She cheered up over breakfast and we made it to school just in time to walk to the sports field across the road.

In her first race she was well behind. In her second race she was so slow a teacher came and ran with her. She was OK in the novelty races (beanbag race, gallop, lolly-and-spoon race).

Then came the break for morning tea. I'd brought a picnic rug, bananas and chocolate biscuits. Louka's friend's mum sat with me and had brought strawberries and blueberries. Louka ate one-and-a-half bananas, half a chocolate biscuit, and some blueberries. She enjoyed the break.

After morning tea came the ball games - high-and-low ball, tunnel ball etc. Louka came running crying to me. Someone had teased her. I cuddled her a bit till she said she was OK again and ran back. But after the longer races she ran away and when it was time to go home she ran off to the end of the park. She was brought back by two teachers, crying and screaming. Eventually she calmed down enough to go back to the school with me, and by the time we got there she was happy again.
